In case you missed it, Microsoft has announced an official SharePoint 2010 release date.  It’s set for May 12th.  You can find the announcement here.  There’s also a link if you want to sign up for the official launch event (because you just have nothing better to do that day  :) ).

Also worth checking out is this post on the same site from January.  Explains the operating system requirements for SharePoint 2010.

UpdateOK, just want to provide a quick update on SharePoint 2010 Records Management because I know you guys are curious.

I have seen the SharePoint 2010 beta release and the new records management functionality is awesome!  Microsoft has really gone out of their way to include the types of features Records Managers expect to see in an enterprise solution.

I can’t go into details just yet (I’m still under NDA and I don’t want a team of lawyers knocking on my door in the middle of the night), but I should be able to tell you much more soon.  So stay tuned.

Oh, and I will be putting a whitepaper together that will include a comprehensive description of all the new records management features in 2010 sometime in the near future.  I’ll make sure that paper is available through this site.

sneak peekMicrosoft released some information about SharePoint 2010 yesterday and I wanted to make sure it didn’t slip by any of you who may be interested in it.

SharePoint 2010 development has hit a milestone.  They have reached the technical preview engineering stage.  This means they are going to allow a limited number of people access to preview what’s inside SharePoint 2010.  Clear progress.

It’s going to be tough to get an invitation to the preview though, so the rest of us will have to wait for the SharePoint 09 Conference in October when they plan to make public all the new additions and feature upgrades in SharePoint 2010.

In the meantime, Microsoft has made this sneak peek available on their new SharePoint 2010 landing page.  There aren’t a lot of details there and they don’t mention SharePoint Records Management specifically, but some of the videos are fairly informative.  They also have an FAQ and a guide to preparing for SharePoint 2010 that are worth looking over.
