After a great deal of hard work by some very dedicated and very bright people at GimmalSoft, the US Department of Defense has officially certified the GimmalSoft Compliance Suite for SharePoint 2010 against the US DoD 5015.2 Records Management Application Standard.
As I’ve noted on this blog before, I am a member of the team that produced this product. I am extremely proud of this solution and I’m very excited about its future. Having said that, I don’t want to jeopardize the independence of this blog by excessively reporting on this one particular solution. If you are interested in learning more about the Compliance Suite, I would be happy to talk to you offline or you can contact GimmalSoft directly through their website.

Hi Don,
I have two questions about GimmalSoft that you may be able to help.
1) Is GimmalSoft a standard component or sold separately?
2) Can GimmalSoft prompt user to set disposition date and action. While the predetermined disposition date is approaching, will the GimmalSoft prompt user to revisit disposition decision and consider actual execution?
Thank you very much!

Hey Bonnie,
To answer your questions:
1) The SharePoint 2010 Compliance Suite is a GimmalSoft product sold separately from SharePoint.
2) The Compliance Suite doesn’t necessarily ‘prompt’ the user to set disposition and action dates. Those dates are determined by the file plan container into which the record is filed. The Compliance Suite comes with a nice ‘As-of’ reporting feature that can be used to determine future disposition actions and evaluate their accuracy prior to action being taken. The destruction process also prompts the administrator to approve the destruction of records before final disposition takes place.
I’m no longer with GimmalSoft, but I can put you in touch with some folks there who would be happy to answer any more questions you might have. I’ll contact you off-line shortly…
Cheers,
Don
